IPOH, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- A total of RM436,930 has been allocated by MIC’s educational arm, the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) to assist 12 Indian students from Perak pursuing higher education at various institutions in the country.

MIC vice-president Tan Sri M. Ramasamy said the students are from the parliamentary constituencies of Bagan Datuk, Teluk Intan, Batu Gajah, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur, Tambun, Sungai Siput, Kuala Kangsar, Bukit Gantang and Taiping.

“The students receiving this aid come from the B40 group and have been carefully screened to ensure their eligibility and need,” he said.

“Each student receives a different amount based on the level of education they are pursuing, whether it be a diploma, undergraduate degree, master's degree, or PhD. Some students have received between RM10,000, RM50,000 and up to RM100,000,” he said.

Ramasamy, who is also Perak MIC chairman, said this after presenting education loan and grant cheques here today.

He also said that over RM200 million has been allocated by MIED since the initiative began in 1984.

“This continuous educational assistance is aimed at helping students further their studies at higher education institutions without financial burden, thus enabling them to pursue careers with greater security,” he said.
