Bursa Malaysia On Downtrend, Selling Persists In Utilities And Financial Services Sectors

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia continued its downtrend at mid-afternoon as selling persisted in the utilities and financial services sectors.

At 3.05 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 15.66 points to 1,586.75 compared with Friday’s close of 1,602.41.

The benchmark index opened 3.45 points lower at 1,598.96.

Decliners outnumbered advancers 930 to 184, with 374 counters unchanged, 881 untraded and 19 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.08 billion shares valued at RM1.53 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank fell two sen to RM10.08, CIMB dropped 10 sen to RM8.08 and Tenaga shaved 28 sen to RM13.82. Public Bank gained one sen to RM4.45 and IHH added four sen to RM7.10.

As for the active stocks, Key Alliance and Velocity Capital eased half a sen each to 0.5 sen and eight sen, respectively. Swift Energy and MYEG declined 1.5 sen each to 37 sen and 95 sen, respectively, and JCY International weakened 3.5 sen to 49.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index reduced 122.72 points to 12,180.05, the FBM Emas Shariah Index sank 135.45 points to 12,115.29, and the FBMT 100 Index declined 116.64 points to 11,867.20.

The FBM 70 Index dropped 178.06 points to 18,289.47 while the FBM ACE Index decreased 113.84 points to 5,239.63.

By sector, the Energy Index went up 2.09 points to 835.39, the Financial Services Index dipped 88.35 points to 18,836.19, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 2.25 points to 168.41, and the Plantation Index dwindled 66.04 points to 7,444.58.
