GEORGE TOWN, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Selgate Corp Sdn Bhd, through its healthcare arm, Selgate Healthcare Sdn Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MTT Properties and Development Sdn Bhd to build a private specialist hospital in Balik Pulau, Penang.
Selgate Corp group chief executive officer Datuk Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth said the Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang is targeted to be ready by 2028 and would add about 172 beds and offer 31 specialities to its healthcare operations.
He said the hospital construction costs totalling RM130 million and the hospital's location provides easy access for international patients because the facilities are strategically located near Penang International Airport.
"Selgate envisions to be one of the leading private healthcare operators in Malaysia and we are striving to provide affordable quality healthcare and fill the gap in underserved areas.
"The Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang is a vital addition to our vision of establishing eight hospitals nationwide by 2030, with the first two in Rawang and Sepang (Selangor) set to open their doors in 2023," he told reporters after signing the MoU with MTT group chairman Datuk Seri Kenny Ong Kean Lee, here today.
The ceremony was witnessed by Penang Youth, Sports and Health Community chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen.
Nor Hisham said this collaboration underscores mutual commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare and while MTT Properties will spearhead the development and lease facilities, Selgate Healthcare is ready to take on its role as the operator ensuring it becomes a beacon of care and excellence.
He added the project further strengthens Selgate's commitment to enhancing healthcare access while contributing to Penang's status as a leading healthcare tourism destination.
"This moment holds special significance as we celebrate Selgate’s 10th anniversary this year. Over the last decade, Selgate has grown into a trusted name in healthcare, guided by our mission to provide compassionate, accessible and innovative medical services," he added.
Meanwhile, Ong said MTT Properties has allocated 2.02 hectares of its land for its first venture into healthcare in Botanica.CT.
Ong said the growing township in Balik Pulau currently does not have a private specialist hospital and only has the Balik Pulau General Hospital to serve the residents in the area.
"This hospital will not only be able to provide quality healthcare to the township but will also extend to the Balik Pulau and other neighbouring communities at large," he said.
Ong added that the Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang will also complement the aged care facility, Eden@Botanica CT, the first integrated senior living resort in Penang.
"Eden@Botanica CT is designed to provide a holistic and supportive environment for seniors in their golden years, combining comfortable living spaces with personalised care services.
"The partnership with Selgate Healthcare marks a historic milestone towards becoming a fully self-sustaining township," he added.
MTT is the master township developer of Botanica.CT.
