INDONESIA

 

1.JOKOWI DOESN’T MIND PRABOWO EVALUATING HIS NATIONAL STRATEGIC PROJECTS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Former President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Tuesday that he did not mind that his successor Prabowo Subianto would review his so-called “national strategic projects”. Jokowi was previously in power for a decade. During his presidency, he had established 233 of these national strategic projects.

 

2.PDI-P OFFERS TO ACT AS ‘PARTNER’ TO GOVERNMENT -- THE JAKARTA POST

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will play the role of “strategic partner” to the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and will work in support of its programmes, party politicians have said, dashing hopes for a strong opposition.

1.LAOS-US PARTNER TO ENHANCE LEGAL SERVICES - - VIENTIANE TIMES

The United States (US) and Laos launched the “Cooperation Project on Access to Justice and Legal Aid Support in Laos” Phase 2 to improve justice officers’ capacity. The Justice Ministry and the Asia Foundation have teamed up to ensure citizens can access proper legal aid.

 

2.AMERICAN-FUNDED HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECT - - VIENTIANE TIMES

The Ministry of Education and Sports and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) initiated the “Laos Higher Education for Accelerated Development” project to promote quality education. Funded by USAID, the project aims to improve education that supports socio-economic development.

 

MYANMAR 

 

1.MYANMAR-INDIA BILATERAL TRADE TO CROSS RM7.2 BILLION - - THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar-India bilateral trade is forecast to surpass RM7.2 billion  (US$1.6 billion) by March 31. Myanmar exports fish, garments, pulses and rubber to India. While India sells construction materials, electrical appliances, pharmaceuticals and petroleum products to Myanmar

 

2.WATERBIRD CENSUS TO BEGIN IN MANDALAY NEXT WEEK - - THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association will conduct a waterbird census in the Mandalay Region from January 20 to 22. The initiative that is part of the Asian Waterbird Census programme will highlight the diversity and waterbird population and wetland-dependent birds in key areas.

1.VIETNAM-POLAND TO STRENGTHEN TIES - - VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Poland from January 16-18 will further deepen the nation’s long-standing friendship with traditional partners in Central Eastern Europe. Vietnam and Poland established diplomatic relations in 1950 and since have promoted multifaceted cooperation.

 

2.NEW LAW SLASHES NATIONWIDE TRAFFIC OFFENCES - - VIETNAMPLUS

Traffic violations have decreased in the first two weeks of January following the introduction of stricter penalties for offenders. Offences such as drunk driving, overloading, speeding, using modified vehicles on the roads and running red lights have all declined.
