JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) 2025, held alongside the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 at Persada Johor International Convention Centre, brings together participants from 42 countries, reflecting its truly wide reach.
Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing stated that the event, running from today until Jan 20, offers a platform for ASEAN nations to collaborate in promoting their tourism products to a global audience.
"TRAVEX 2025 includes a total of 221 sellers showcasing the best of ASEAN tourism, 323 buyers from 42 countries, and 100 international media representatives from 35 participating countries.
"This reflects the growing confidence in ASEAN'S tourism industry and the immense potential for partnerships, creating countless opportunities for collaboration and fostering a shared vision for the future of our region’s tourism," he said during the opening here today.
Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi; Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman, and Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk P. Manoharan.
Tiong noted that the ASEAN members’ collaboration is aligned with the ATF 2025 theme of "Unity in Motion: Shaping ASEAN's Tourism Tomorrow".
TRAVEX serves as a dynamic business platform that enables ASEAN buyers and sellers to connect and explore a wide array of destination products and services.
Meanwhile, at a press conference following the opening of TRAVEX 2025, Manoharan announced that Tourism Malaysia is aiming to generate RM20 million in sales through the event, with an emphasis on various tourism sub-sectors.
"We will also focus on special interest tourism packages, which typically generate higher returns compared to standard tour packages.
"The products will centre on arts and culture, gastronomy, and extreme sports such as diving, among others. This is expected to increase the number of overnight tourists," he said.
ATF 2025 seeks to drive increased tourist arrivals to ASEAN by fostering valuable networking, facilitating knowledge exchange, and promoting regional tourism products, while also enhancing collaboration with global industry leaders.
