275 Notices Issued To Errant Motorists In Special Integrated Ops In Melaka

MELAKA, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 275 notices for various offences to errant motorists during a Special Integrated Operation in Batu Berendam here last night.

Melaka JPJ director Muhammad Firdaus Shariff said the notices were issued to 263 out of 4,075 vehicles inspected.

"Most of the notices were issued for offences involving expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and insurance (103), motorists riding/driving with expired licences (68) followed by technical offences (48).

"In addition, six foreign motorists, involving two Bangladeshis and one each from Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Thailand were also arrested for driving/riding without a valid licence and vehicles with expired LKM and insurance," he told reporters.

Muhammad Firdaus, who led the four-hour operation which ended at about midnight, said it also involved the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Immigration Department and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

During the operation, he said the Immigration Department also detained three foreigners, comprising Myanmar, Bangladeshi and Indonesian, aged between 20 and 40, out of 29 foreigners inspected, for overstaying.
