ALOR SETAR, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- A traditional wooden house located at Dataran Medan Bandar here is set to become a new tourist attraction as part of the "Mai Singgah Alor Setar Lagi" programme, launched in conjunction with Visit Kedah Year 2025 (TMK 2025).

Alor Setar Mayor Datuk Mohd Yusri Md Daud said the house, showcasing traditional Kedah architectural elements, is expected to captivate tourists, particularly those who enjoy taking "outfit of the day" (OOTD) photos.

"Visitors can explore the wooden house daily from 8 am to 5 pm. For additional information, they can visit the Alor Setar Tourism Information Centre  (PPPAS), located near Balai Besar.

"Moreover, traditional Malay attire is available for rent at PPPAS, offering OOTD enthusiasts a unique opportunity to capture unforgettable photos at the wooden house," he told reporters last night.

He was met after the launch of the "Mai Singgah Alor Setar Lagi" programme and the Traditional Wooden House by State Tourism, Culture, and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin.

Mohd Yusri said that the wooden house, which took three months to construct at a cost of about RM25,000, will be maintained and monitored by members of the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) to prevent vandalism.

"This is a valuable asset for Alor Setar, and we want to ensure it remains in pristine condition. Plans are underway to add more traditional wooden houses to this area, creating a collection of structures that beautifully showcase Malay culture," he said.

He also said that the wooden house is an MBAS initiative aimed at supporting and enhancing Kedah's tourism sector in conjunction with TMK 2025.

"This is a commendable and creative effort by MBAS, leveraging Alor Setar's unique appeal to attract tourists. The traditional wooden house will undoubtedly become a popular OOTD spot for visitors and leave them with cherished memories," he said.

He also urged the public to safeguard the state's assets and refrain from vandalism.

"I appeal to everyone to take collective responsibility for preserving the state government's properties. Do not vandalise or damage these structures. Protecting them is essential for promoting the tourism sector and enhancing Kedah's image to attract visitors," he added.
