KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaya (UM) has maintained its position as Malaysia's leading institution, as reflected in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.
The university also achieved a milestone with its debut of the Law discipline in the 151-175 global band.
In a statement today, UM announced that eight out of its 11 subject categories secured the top position in Malaysia. The categories are Business and Economics, Medicine and Health, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Life Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences.
"In addition to excelling in these fields, UM has improved its global rankings in five subject areas, highlighting its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and transformative education," the statement read.
This achievement further strengthens UM's position as a premier institution in Malaysia, Asia, and globally, driven by strategic innovation, inclusivity, and tireless efforts to advance knowledge and excellence, it said.
Meanwhile, UM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman said that the recognition reflects its steadfast commitment to world-class academic quality and standards.
“The success of these rankings is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire campus community, especially our academic and research talent, as well as our non-academic workforce who have worked tirelessly and with great tenacity to meet our internally set Key Performance Indicators," he said.
He emphasised that this aligned with the university’s ultimate aspirations of developing breakthroughs for the world and contributing to civilisational progress.
