Brunei Sultan Grants Audience To Dewan Rakyat Speaker For Bilateral Discussion

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, today granted an audience to the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat who is also President of the 46h ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2025, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, at Istana Nurul Iman, Brunei Darussalam.

According to a statement issued by the Malaysian Parliament, apart from discussing bilateral cooperation on sustainable development, both leaders also deliberated on the unity of ASEAN in addressing global challenges during the meeting.

As part of his official visit to Brunei, Johari was also granted an audience with the Crown Prince of Brunei, Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who also serves as the Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam.

“During the audience, discussions were focused on joint efforts between Brunei and Malaysia to drive digital innovation and advance youth development in ASEAN,” the statement noted.

Johari also extended an invitation to his counterpart, the Speaker of the Legislative Council of Brunei, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman Mohamed Taib to attend the 46th AIPA General Assembly scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur this year, in line with Malaysia’s role as the ASEAN Chair for 2025.

The one-on-one meeting between the two legislative leaders focused on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and exploring strategic collaborations between the two countries. 

The discussions covered key issues such as regional stability, enhancing people-to-people relations, and concerted efforts to achieve ASEAN’s shared goals.
