Two Men Feared Drowned In Separate Overboard Incidents

KUANTAN, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- Two men are feared drowned in separate overboard incidents at the Sungai Puteri Jetty in Kuala Rompin, and Tasik Bera, today.

In the first incident, acting Rompin District police chief DSP Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said the victim is a 50-year-old man named Syed Khalid Syed Ahmad Munshee, from Tanjung Pahang Tua, Pekan.

“A search and rescue operation involving the police, firefighters, and residents has been initiated,” he said in a statement tonight, adding that it was suspended at 7.30 pm at nightfall and will resume at 8.00 am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Pahang said an emergency call about the incident was received at 6.03 pm, and seven personnel from the Kuala Rompin Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.

The spokesperson stated that in a separate incident, an Orang Asli man, identified as Sabri Juarong, 46, reportedly went overboard while crossing Tasik Bera with his wife and child on their way home.

He said six personnel from the Triang Fire and Rescue Station were deployed on a search operation following an emergency call at 7.17 pm.

“It is understood that the wife and child are unharmed,” he said when contacted.
