Dutch Airline KLM To Cut 250 Office Jobs To Save Money

29/01/2025 10:43 PM

MOSCOW, Jan 29 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Dutch air carrier KLM announced on Wednesday that it would cut 250 non-operational office jobs as part of its cost-saving strategy, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"Today, KLM Group announces a reduction of 250 jobs in non-operational roles. The Works Council and the trade unions have been informed in advance," the company said in a statement.

The decision was made as part of a package of measures announced in October 2025 to improve the airline's financial and operational performance, according to the statement.

KLM said it expected the layoffs to result in a €450 million (US$486 million) increase in its operating performance.

"It is crucial for our future to structurally lower costs, which involves making painful choices. One of these measures is reducing the number of non-operational jobs, where we will try to avoid forced layoffs, although we cannot rule this out in advance," KLM President and CEO Marjan Rintel was quoted in the statement as saying.

At the same time, the company will continue to hire professionals for the operational positions, which are difficult to fill in under current labour market conditions, to maintain its operational capacity "as much as possible," Rintel added.
