KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Malaysians have been urged not to be swayed by detractors who undermine Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza through the Waqf (endowment) City project after the Ramadan month.

Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman said that Malaysia’s leadership in championing global humanitarian causes strengthens the nation’s standing within the international community. He highlighted that the Waqf City project not only aids in the reconstruction of Gaza, but also promotes a groundbreaking and innovative waqf model.

“I urge everyone to disregard the negativity from certain quarters, who may harbour envy over the recognition earned by PMX, to the point of undermining this noble initiative,” he said in a statement, today.

He stressed that the Waqf City project in Gaza stands as a clear testament to Malaysia's commitment and leadership on the world stage.

“It is with great pride to note the aid fund for this project is sourced from independent funds and contributions from the corporate sector, underscoring the strong trust placed in Malaysia’s capabilities and sincerity by various parties.

“With the construction of the Shah Alam Twin Mosque, Selangor Waqf Apartments and the Malaysian School in Gaza, it not only provides basic needs to the Palestinian people but also new hope for their future," said Syed Ahmad, who also called on all parties to come together to support the project.

On Jan 29, Anwar announced the Waqf City project in Gaza, which will be launched after Ramadan, as the first model of Malaysian waqf development in Palestine.
