KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, marking a significant milestone since its opening in November 1999.
SMC said this landmark occasion highlighted the hospital’s legacy of clinical excellence, community care, and pioneering innovation and commemorates the vision that brought it to life.
Since its founding a quarter of a century ago, SMC has grown into the country’s largest private quaternary hospital, with 724 licensed beds and over 60 medical specialities, adapting to the community's evolving healthcare needs through the years.
The hospital provides multidisciplinary care of the highest standard, housing 28 Centres of Excellence , and is known for its specialised services and comprehensive medical treatments.
As leader in healthcare innovation, the hospital remains committed to using cutting-edge technology to enhance patient care, and Sunway Cancer Centre and Nuclear Medicine Centre are fully equipped to offer comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the hospital said in a statement today.
“In its 25 years of operation, SMC has achieved numerous medical milestones, including being the first private hospital in Malaysia to complete more than 3,000 robot-assisted surgeries and continues to advance its surgical expertise with new innovations, reaffirming its commitment to providing comprehensive, advanced healthcare solutions,” SMC said.
SMC’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) offers expert care with advanced technologies like early warning signs (EWS) and non-invasive ventilation as well as its Special Haematology Laboratory, accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), supports stem cell processing, cryopreservation, and extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) under one roof.
The hospital has also started treating paediatric bone marrow transplant patients after a Paediatric Transplant Haematologist joining SMC in late 2024.
The hospital has received numerous accolades for healthcare excellence, including certifications from prestigious bodies such as the Joint Commission International (JCI), Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and with this three major accreditations, SMC became the first private hospital in Malaysia to achieve such a distinction, setting the benchmark for private healthcare and delivering world-class care with compassion, innovation, and precision.
