KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- National mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin are focusing on overcoming their weaknesses to achieve greater consistency ahead of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC), set to take place from Feb 11-16.
Pang Ron said one of the key areas they need to improve on is reducing unforced errors while also managing the high expectations placed on them.
“For BAMTC, I believe we have prepared well after taking a short break for Chinese New Year. We are focusing on enhancing our consistency on the court.
“This year, we may have set expectations too high, which added to the pressure. Fans have also started to place their hopes on us, so we need to learn to handle that better,” he said.
Pang Ron and Su Yin had been announced as part of Malaysia's mixed doubles lineup for BAMTC alongside Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai.
On Malaysia’s opponents Indonesia and Hong Kong in Group B, Pang Ron believes all teams have an equal chance of advancing.
Although both teams are expected to field their best doubles pairs, he is confident Malaysia can put up a strong fight to progress beyond the group stage.
“I don’t think any team has a clear advantage because once we step onto the court, anything can happen. We just need to keep fighting for the team and never give up,” he added.
