WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Bernama-dpa) -- US President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered a review of the country's involvement and funding in the United Nations, reported German news agency (dpa).
The executive order would withdraw the US from the UN Human Rights Council and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). It would also review the US' involvement in the cultural agency, UNESCO.
Trump said the UN had "tremendous potential" but "it's not being well run", he told reporters as he signed the order.
"There are great hopes for it, but it's not being well run, to be honest, and not doing the job," he said.
"A lot of these conflicts that we're working on should be settled, or at least, we should have some help in settling them. We never seem to get help. That should be the primary purpose of the United Nations," he added.
