Ziarah Kasih MADANI Programme Brings Joy To Five Families In Bakri Constituency

MUAR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The struggles of an elderly couple, unable to move due to an accident and health issues, have caught the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who stepped in to offer support.

Rahmah Nekmah, 67, fractured her hip after a fall from a car last September. She now faces the challenge of caring for her husband, Abu Hamid Jayus, 69, who is wheelchair-bound after losing his left leg to diabetes.

Despite the hardships, Rahmah expressed her gratitude for the help she has received.

"When you can’t move or work anymore, it feels overwhelming. We can only depend on our children now, and this RM500 will help with our daily expenses," Rahmah shared during the Ziarah Kasih MADANI programme here today.

The couple was among the recipients of RM500 in cash and essential household items delivered by Datuk Azman Abidin, the Prime Minister's representative, as part of the MADANI programme. Four others from the Bakri parliamentary constituency, who are also facing health challenges, received support as well.

According to Azman the selection of recipients was based on their conditions and criteria, including those who are unable to work or have lost their jobs.

He added that the programme would be expanded nationwide, with Sarawak being the next destination to aid those affected by floods.

Among the recipients, S Velayutham, 50, who sustained multiple injuries in an accident, expressed his appreciation. "I’m happy that Datuk Seri (Anwar Ibrahim) gave this contribution, which helps lighten my burden during this time of need," he said.

Wellson Saibin, 18, whose mother, Jenifer Jeffry, 37, is bedridden after a serious accident, said the donation would help support his family.

"With the Chinese New Year holidays, work is scarce, so this donation helps us stay afloat," he added.
