MAIWP Allocates RM230.63 Mln To Empower Human Capital This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) --  The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM230.63 million in zakat (tithe) funds to empower human capital this year.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said of the amount, RM131 million is allocated for education assistance schemes, RM17 million for educational development programmes and RM49 million to finance MAIWP’s educational institutions.

“MAIWP, as an agency under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), remains committed to supporting the asnaf, especially in the Federal Territories, to excel in education.

“I always instruct MAIWP’s top management to proactively assist the asnaf in their academic journey, ensuring they can succeed and, in turn, help their families.”

He said this in his speech at the MAIWP Scholarship and Special Incentive presentation ceremony for asnaf students at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) and Full Boarding Schools (SBP) at MAIWP Tower here today.

Mohd Na’im said that besides scholarships, MAIWP provides various initiatives under its education cluster to help students in the Federal Territories.

At the event, 679 students received the MAIWP Scholarship and Special Incentive, involving a zakat fund of RM5.8 million.

They included 80 students from local and overseas higher learning institutions who received RM3,085,080 and 259 secondary school students who were allocated RM2,460,500.

Additionally, 200 asnaf students at SBP received RM200,000, and 140 asnaf students at MRSM received RM140,000 under the Special Incentive.
