LABUAN, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- A workshop operator was fined RM1,800 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for failing to comply with a Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) award, which required him to pay RM11,560 to a claimant within 14 days of the award’s issuance on April 25, 2024.
Kamaraull Aliff MD Nuril, 38, was sentenced to the fine in lieu of seven weeks' imprisonment after pleading guilty to the offence under Subsection 117(1) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599).
The provision carries a maximum penalty of a RM10,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both upon conviction.
According to the charge, Kamaraull failed to comply with the Tribunal’s Form 8 award, which ordered him to compensate Muhammad Fakhruddin Jori Roslan, 34, after the latter lodged a claim with the Labuan branch of the Consumer Tribunal for losses suffered.
Despite the Tribunal awarding Muhammad Fakhruddin RM11,560, the accused did not settle the amount within the stipulated period.
