Consensus Between Pesaka, Bumiputera Leaders Key To PBB’s Strength – Uggah

KUCHING, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The spirit of consensus and unity between Pesaka and Bumiputera leaders within Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) remains a key formula in ensuring the party’s continued strength and relevance.

PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Sarawak Deputy Premier, said mutual understanding and compromise are evident in the party’s leadership structure and selection process.

“For instance, if the Youth Chief is from Pesaka, then the Women's Wing Chief will be from the Bumiputera wing. Both wings share a clear understanding. I’m from Pesaka and serve as Deputy President, while Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan from the Bumiputera wing is also deputy president.

“We have never clashed, and there is no issue of racial confrontation. What is even more interesting is that this (consensus) is not written in the party’s constitution. However, because it is a good practice, everyone observes, keeps and protects it,” he said.

Uggah was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of PBB’s Youth and Women’s Wings here today.

PBB consists of two wings: the Bumiputera wing, which includes the Malay/Melanau communities, and the Pesaka wing, which represents the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu communities.

Meanwhile, Uggah said as of 2024, there are 2,008,347 registered voters in Sarawak. He urged the party’s youth and women’s wings to intensify their efforts to win voter support.

“For women, your role is crucial in engaging with voters and continuously reminding them of our party’s contributions to Sarawak’s development.

“As for the youths, their votes are vital to the party’s success and future. I call on young leaders to be actively involved on the ground and embrace inclusivity, as they represent not only the future of our party but also of our beloved Sarawak,” he added.
