NEW DELHI, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- A week-long Malaysian food and cultural festival kicked off in New Delhi on Monday, showcasing the country’s rich culinary heritage and traditions as part of Malaysia's tourism promotion campaign.

The event was inaugurated by Malaysian High Commissioner Datuk Muzafar Shah Mustafa, alongside travel industry leaders, media representatives, and ASEAN ambassadors and diplomats.

Two Malaysian chefs -- Faridul Ataras from the Ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Irwan Mohd Nor of Adabi Consumer Industries -- will present a curated menu during the festival starting Monday till Feb 23 at the Pullman New Delhi Aerocity's Honk restaurant.

"This festival is not just about food. It is about immersing yourself in the Malaysian way of life," Muzafar said.

A group of artistes from Malaysia performed traditional dances at the inauguration ceremony.

Tourism Malaysia Delhi director Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali said the event will showcase Malaysia's diversity of culinary heritage influenced by a fusion of Malay, Chinese, and Indian traditions.

"We are thrilled to bring this experience to India, a key tourism market for Malaysia. Through this festival, we invite Indian travellers to explore Malaysia, not just as a travel destination but also as a paradise for food lovers," he said.

Malaysia attracted more than 1.1 million tourists from India in 2024.

Visitors from India have been significantly boosted by the 30-day visa exemption for Indian tourists.
