KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Popular singer and vocal coach Datuk Syafinaz Selamat will push her vocal limits in the ‘Classical Treasures’ concert at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS here on April 5.
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) announced in a statement that their collaboration with Syafinaz will feature two pieces from the opera ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Gounod, as well as ‘Der Holle Rache’ by Mozart from the opera ‘The Magic Flute’.
"The ‘Romeo and Juliet’ opera version has gained extraordinary popularity. Ah! Je veux vivre, also known as 'Juliet’s Waltz', is a piece that demands powerful vocal delivery and is performed early in the opera.
"’The Magic Flute’ by Mozart was warmly received when it premiered in Vienna, Austria, in 1791 and remains a masterpiece to this day. Der Hölle Rache is one of the opera’s most spectacular excerpts, presenting a significant vocal challenge to its singer," MPO said.
The concert, which will showcase six great classical works including ‘Overture of the Barber of Seville’ by Rossini and ‘Nocturne in E flat’ by Chopin, will be conducted by Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga.
MPO will conclude the concert with two remarkable compositions ‘Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2’ by Liszt and ‘Symphony No. 7’ by Beethoven.
