KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Semarak Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (SeRenE) has inked a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Megamas Resources, a Singapore-based marine and offshore services provider, to establish a new joint venture company, Semarak MIS Sdn Bhd.

Semarak MIS will focus on developing state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient vessels for the installation and maintenance of offshore renewable power cables and subsea fibre-optic telecommunications cables.

SeRenE said the collaboration aims to support the growing offshore wind sector by managing inter-array and export power cables, essential for connecting offshore wind farms to the electrical grid while enhancing regional telecommunications infrastructure ensuring robust and efficient connectivity across Southeast Asia.

"This collaboration, formalised through the MoA, will not only enhance regional infrastructure but also create new job opportunities, contributing significantly to Malaysia’s green economy.

"By aligning with global sustainability goals, the partnership is set to drive carbon reduction efforts and accelerate the adoption of clean energy across Southeast Asia," the company said in a statement.

On the vessel specification, SeRenE said each vessel would measure approximately 120 metres in length, with a 23-metre beam and a deadweight capacity of 8,000 tonnes.

Designed in collaboration with Norway’s Ulstein Design & Solutions, the vessels will incorporate cutting-edge hull technology to minimise motion and enhance operational efficiency, even in challenging sea conditions.

"Equipped with Dynamic Positioning Class 2 systems, these vessels will maintain high precision and stability in offshore environments, including shallow waters as deep as 15 metres. Operations are slated to commence by mid-2027," it said.

SeRenE managing director Muhammad Shahil Ishak commented that the partnership brings together expertise in renewable energy and subsea infrastructure, accelerating offshore energy solutions and contributing to a cleaner, greener future for Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, Megamas Resources chief executive officer Capt Tiew Sien Kheng said the collaboration will help to meet the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, ensuring a positive impact on the environment and the regional economy.
