JAKARTA, Feb 22 (Bernama) --To boost the global competitiveness of its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Indonesia's Ministry of Trade has launched the Gemini Academy, an initiative aimed at helping SMEs leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their operations.

The programme, developed in partnership with Google Indonesia, focuses on supporting both export and non-export local SMEs, aiming to help businesses innovate and expand into international markets.

Minister Budi Santoso expressed confidence that the academy would help SMEs streamline their operations, reduce costs, and improve their competitiveness.

“By integrating AI into their business strategies, they will gain valuable insights into market trends and consumer preferences, which will enable them to refine their product offerings and improve marketing efforts,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

The Gemini Academy offers three training categories – Potential Exporter SME, Basic Export SME, and Advanced Export SME – to equip participants with the skills needed to optimise business processes and expand their market reach.

“Indonesia is the first country globally to offer the Gemini Academy training programme for SMEs, and the Ministry of Trade is our first government partner in Indonesia,” said Google Indonesia’s Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Putri Alam.

She pointed out that Gemini, an AI chatbot designed to boost creativity and productivity, is available for download on the Google Play Store, App Store, or its official website.

In addition to the SME-focused training, Google Indonesia will offer 500 scholarships for Google Career Certificates to civil servants at the ministry to enable them to access AI-related courses, she added.
