KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) – David Gurupatham & Koay (DGK) has made history as the first Malaysian law firm licensed to operate in mainland China, with the establishment of its new office in Jinan, Shandong province.
DGK’s founding partner and managing director, Datuk David Gurupatham in a statement said the firm aimed to support Malaysian companies seeking business opportunities in China while also assisting Chinese companies looking to invest in Malaysia.
He noted that Malaysia and China had maintained strong trade and cultural ties for centuries, with China remaining Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, culminating in bilateral trade between the two nations which reached USD190.24 billion.
David also expressed his optimism that both nations were poised for future growth in sectors such as high-level manufacturing, digital economy initiatives and green development projects, with increasing tourism and cultural exchange activities further strengthening ties between the peoples of the two countries.
Meanwhile, senior partner of DGK Koay Eng Hooi in the same statement said: “DGK Jinan is the first Malaysian law firm to be established in mainland China (excluding special economic zones), it represents a major milestone for a home-grown legal firm founded more than 20 years ago. Suffice to say, we are looking forward to serving our clients in China”
