23/02/2025 11:07 PM

GEORGE TOWN,  Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Penang, as the host of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat this Tuesday, has made comprehensive preparations in all aspects, including security.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said that the state police have heightened security measures in the retreat area to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.

The retreat will take place from February 25 to 27 in Batu Ferringhi.

"We have made thorough preparations, and everything is in order, with enhanced security. Regarding police assignments, special focus is given to traffic management and safety measures," he told Bernama when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Penang Deputy State Secretary (Management) Datuk Abdul Kahar Abdullah said the ministries involved in the events during the 2025 ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship, were in direct contact with the security agencies to ensure that the necessary security measures were taken.

He said the security measures include strict control at the meeting locations, the airport, hotels where members of the delegate are staying as well as the route used by the delegation.

"On the part of the state government, we also hold coordination meetings between the organising ministries and security agencies in the state so that careful planning can be made and implemented.

"The Penang Police will ensure the deployment of sufficient security personnel at all strategic locations, including monitoring through an integrated control centre," he said.

The ADMM Retreat is held in conjunction with the 2025 ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship.

Under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, Malaysia will host over 300 ASEAN-related meetings, programmes, and summits throughout the year.

Malaysia officially assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship on Jan 1 this year, marking the fifth time it has held the position, following its previous terms in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
