KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The recent exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Turkiye’s Anadolu Ajansi (AA), will provide audiences with a broader perspective on both countries and international affairs.

“We believe that there is a great and valuable potential for cooperation with Malaysia in the field of combating disinformation, both bilaterally and on international platforms,” said Turkiye’s Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel in his written statement to Bernama International News Service on Tuesday.

The statement was issued following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Malaysia.

“We consider this MoU to be an important opportunity to realise this potential by providing factual and unbiased information,” he said, noting that the cooperation will not be limited to institutions, experts, information officers or journalists, “but will also be a means of bringing our societies closer together”.

According to the ambassador, beyond providing technical support in journalism, the MoU lays the groundwork for joint productions and collaborative research, and within this framework, both agencies can collaborate on producing programmes in various areas.

“The MoU also lays the groundwork to reinforce news exchange cooperation between Anadolu Ajansi and Bernama with various training and exchange programmes and workshops,” he said.

The MoU, signed by Bernama’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Anadolu Ajansi’s President and CEO Serdar Karagoz, was witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Erdogan in Putrajaya on Feb 11.

The MoU reinforces the media collaboration partnership between Bernama and AA, first established in 2015.

It allows both agencies to exchange up to 150 news articles, 30 photos, and 30 videos per month, providing a richer, more diverse flow of information.

The agreement also includes joint journalist training, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and media collaborations aimed at enhancing professional standards and ethical reporting.
