ALOR SETAR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) is stepping up enforcement throughout the Ramadan bazaar season to ensure traders adhere to the established rules and regulations.
Alor Setar Mayor Datuk Abdul Gafar Yahya said inspections would be conducted, particularly concerning licenses issued by the MBAS Market and Hawker Management Division.
“This year, MBAS has organised 942 Ramadan bazaar stalls across 15 sites. This is to provide opportunities for traders who wish to sell food and beverages during the fasting month.
“The council will strictly enforce licensing conditions to ensure traders possess a valid temporary bazaar permit and do not swap stalls or transfer licenses. Foreign traders and assistants are not allowed, and the stalls must operate strictly within the approved hours from 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm,” he said in a statement today.
He said compounds and notices would be issued to traders who fail to comply with licensing conditions, while efforts would also be made to manage traffic in congested bazaar areas.
“Hygiene inspections will be conducted in collaboration with the Kota Setar Health Office to ensure that traders and their assistants have received typhoid vaccinations. Food sampling will be carried out for high-risk foods sold at the bazaars.
“Furthermore, we will also inspect privately organised bazaars and roadside hawkers,” he added.
