AMMAN, March 5 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- A total of 29 children from Gaza, along with their families, were evacuated to Jordan on Tuesday. This marks the first batch of 2,000 children who will receive medical treatment in the Kingdom, reported Xinhua.
The Jordanian Armed Forces said the evacuation was coordinated by the army, the World Health Organisation, and the Health Ministry as part of the Jordanian medical corridor initiative.
During a press conference, Military Media Director, Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hiyari, said that four children were evacuated via helicopters from the Royal Jordanian Air Force through the Marka Military Airport, and 25 children were evacuated via land in ambulances through the King Hussein Bridge, also known as the Allenby Bridge.
According to Al-Hiyari, the total number of patients treated in Jordan's field hospitals in Gaza and the West Bank since the beginning of the Hamas-Israel conflict has exceeded half a million.
