Super League: Turtles Eye Win Over Sabah In Chase For Third Spot

KUALA NERUS, March 6 (Bernama) -- With four matches to go in the Super League, four points separates third-placed Sabah FC and fourth-placed Terengganu FC (TFC).

After 20 matches, Sabah are third with 35 points and TFC on 31 points. TFC also have to be wary of the threat posed by Kuching City FC, who are fifth on 30 points. 

As such, TFC know they must beat Sabah at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) tomorrow if they are to have a chance of pipping the former to the third spot when the season ends.

TFC head coach Badrul Afzan Razali acknowledged as much when he said: "We have a crucial game tomorrow (against Sabah). We must get all three points to narrow the gap to Sabah (to one point). If we lose, we might as well kiss goodbye to our chances of finishing third.

"We must also be wary of Kuching City, who are just a point behind. We can't afford to lose… otherwise, we may fall to the fifth spot in the standings.”

With so much at stake, the 49-year-old head coach has called on his players to stay focused and be wary of their opponents’ tactical formation.

He added that Sabah possessed a strong and high-quality lineup of import players in attack who can be a real handful for the Turtles.

"We hope the (5-1) win over Pahang (on Feb 27) will stand us in good stead and we can keep the winning momentum going tomorrow.

"Although excited to bag all three points, we must be on our toes and not make any silly mistakes that can cost us dearly,” he added after the Turtles' training session at the SSMZA in Kuala Nerus last night.
