KOTA KINABALU, March 11 (Bernama) – The Note of Collaboration (NoC) between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is set to become a reference model for local governments in Sabah, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the collaboration forms the foundation for administrative reforms that will benefit both DBKK staff and the wider public service sector in the state.
He stressed that the state government views the fight against corruption and improvements in administrative efficiency as essential for enhancing Sabah’s competitiveness on both national and international stages.
“Sabah has great potential in tourism, industry, agriculture, and services. We must ensure that investors, both local and international, can confidently do business here, without concerns over inefficiency or misuse of power within our administration,” he said.
Abidin said this following the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signing ceremony between MACC and DBKK, with Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy representing the commission and Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah representing the city council. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki was present as a witness.
Abidin also noted that anti-corruption efforts should not rest solely on the government or MACC but require collective participation from all sectors.
Meanwhile, Sabin said that DBKK is committed to ensuring the effectiveness of the MoC and will roll out several key initiatives, including sharing information on misconduct cases with MACC.
Additionally, DBKK will launch an internal online complaint system for staff to report integrity-related issues confidentially and securely, helping to build trust and reinforce transparency within the organisation.
“DBKK, with MACC’s support, will also conduct regular courses, workshops, and briefings to ensure all staff understand the importance of integrity and their role in combating corruption in the workplace,” Sabin added.
