KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB) marked the start of the new school term by organising the GET Back to School Programme 2025 at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Setiawangsa here, providing support to 100 students from low-income families with essential school supplies.
Great Eastern Takaful chief executive officer Shahrul Azlan Shahriman shared that the programme reflects GETB's ongoing commitment to ensuring every child, especially those from low-income families, has equal access to education and essential learning supplies for a better learning experience.
“Every child ought to be provided, if not more, an equal opportunity to have access to education and learning essentials. Together, we can develop a future in which education and well-being go hand in hand,” he said in a statement today.
According to the statement, the initiative, which is now in its second year under Great Eastern Takaful’s Corporate Social Responsibility pillar, GET-Pintar, provides students with school bags, water bottles, food containers, pencil cases with stationery and RM100 in Pustaka Rakyat book vouchers.
The company also gave packed food to the students after the handover ceremony.
In addition to the school essentials handover ceremony, GETB took the opportunity to promote sustainability and environmental awareness through its GETGreen flagship programme, the GETB Upcycling Project.
Through the programme, students took part in an engaging environmental awareness briefing and quizzes, as well as being introduced to the 2-in-1 Upcycling Machine, which transforms plastic waste into useful items like hair combs, rulers and bag clips.
The statement noted that the award-winning project was launched in 2022, and to date, the initiative has reached out to over 12,000 individuals in its mission to promote sustainable lifestyles and green practices.
“Great Eastern Takaful will continue to Reach for Great with the community by supporting and providing education necessities, as well as promoting sustainability awareness,” the statement read.
