MELAKA, March 13 (Bernama) – A high tide and coastal erosion mitigation project at Pantai Puteri is underway with an allocation of over RM20 million from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).

Senior State Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government, Climate Change, Drainage, and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin said the project involved constructing a wave barrier and reclaiming a small section of the area to address future erosion issues.

"The project has been awarded to a contractor, and work has commenced. It is expected to be completed before 2027," he told reporters at Masjid Tun Mohd Khalil in Tanjung Minyak today.

He said the project was urgent as Pantai Puteri had been facing severe erosion, posing safety risks to visitors at the popular tourist destination.

Rais also said the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) would reorganise trader placements along the beach to improve business operations and cleanliness.

Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir previously said six of 21 coastal erosion projects under PETRA, spanning eight west coast states in the Peninsular, were expected to be completed this year.

At the same event, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that cash assistance and Ramadan kits had been distributed to 120 residents of Tangga Batu, amounting to RM12,000.
