KOTA BHARU, July 5 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Immigration Department has detained 18 illegal immigrants in Ops Minyak/Belanja carried out in the Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh areas on Thursday.
Its director, Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation began at about 4 pm and involved 27 officers from the Kelantan Immigration enforcement division and focused on areas, including supermarkets in the two districts, with a high concentration of foreign nationals.
He said the operation was conducted based on intelligence that found there were activities involving the employment of foreign nationals who violated visa conditions and overstayed in the country.
“In the inspections on several premises, we detained 18 male foreign nationals suspected of being involved in various immigration offences.
“They (foreign nationals) comprised 15 Bangladeshis, two Pakistanis, and a Myanmarese, all aged between 20 and 50 years old,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, all individuals involved are being held at the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigations under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying in Malaysia.
