MELAKA, July 8 (Bernama) -- Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the state will introduce aerial tourism starting in September.
He said the proposed segment was put forward by the International Aero Training Academy (IATAC) Sdn Bhd as part of the company's initiative to offer a new tourism product in the state.
"IATAC proposed that this area be developed into a new tourist attraction, offering a 40-minute joy ride flight package with aircraft available here, allowing tourists and visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of Melaka from the air.
"A total of eight flights per day have been proposed, with fare rates to be announced later if all approval processes go smoothly," he said.
Ab Rauf was speaking after attending the Open Day ceremony of the 2u1i Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Programme at IATAC Batu Berendam here today.
Also present were National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) vice-chancellor Lt Gen Datuk Arman Rumaizi and IATAC chief executive officer Captain Kenneth Yap.
On the degree programme, Ab Rauf said it is the first of its kind launched in the country through a strategic public-private partnership between UPNM and IATAC.
He also said the learning model combines two years of academic study and one year of industrial training, compared to the usual six-year duration to obtain dual qualifications: a Bachelor's Degree and a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
"This is a new development, and Melaka is very proud to host this educational segment, as it brings a fresh breath into the aviation and education industries in the state," he added.
