MELAKA, July 12 (Bernama) -- Once a humble symbol of heritage and tradition, the iconic Melaka trishaw has now embraced the digital age.

In a move that blends nostalgia with innovation, tourists can now book these colourful, pedal-powered rides with just a few taps on their phones.

Visitors to Melaka can use the ‘iTrafik MBMB’ mobile application to reserve trishaw rides online, offering a more convenient and modern way to explore the historic city.

Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said nearly 300 licensed trishaw riders registered under MBMB are part of the platform, ensuring a safer and more reliable service for users.

The app allows users to choose their preferred rider and view important details such as the rider’s name, photo, and contact number.

Bookings can also be made directly via phone or WhatsApp, adding a personal touch to the digital convenience, he said.

Currently, trishaw rides are available from five official pick-up points: Stadhuys Building, Taming Sari Tower, Dataran Sungai Melaka, Medan Samudera and the Melaka Historical Vehicle Park.

Shadan introduced the new booking feature during the closing ceremony of the ‘Vibrant Melaka 2025’ event here last night, highlighting it as part of broader efforts to modernise public services and enhance tourist experiences.

State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Fairul Nizam Roslan, who officiated the event, praised the initiative as a step forward in Melaka’s digital transformation, adding value to the tourism sector while keeping its cultural charm intact.
