Volunteers Aid Sandakan Residents Amid Water Supply Distruption

SANDAKAN, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- A team of volunteers has been working tirelessly to help distribute water to Sandakan residents affected by supply disruptions following the shutdown of the Segaliud Water Treatment Plant due to a power outage last Saturday.

Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee said the volunteers were distributing water until midnight yesterday, and distribution efforts will continue today, with additional water tankers from the West Coast also arriving to offer assistance.

“We apologise for the crisis caused by the electricity supply disruption following damage to the KV tower a few days ago. Our volunteers are doing their best,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Water supply is currently being delivered through tankers provided by the Sabah Water Department (JANS), while a Bernama survey found that some residents have also turned to natural spring water to meet their daily needs.

Vivian said the volunteer team, comprising individuals of different ages, races, and backgrounds, has been a true reflection of unity in Sandakan.

Last Saturday, electricity supply in six districts on the east coast of Sabah was affected after a landslide caused the disruption of the 275KV Kolopis-Segaliud transmission line.
