BATU PAHAT, Sept 16 (Bernama) – Batu Pahat, famously known as Bandar Penggaram, has recently unveiled a fresh tourism gem through the Yok Batu Pahat River Cruise (BP Cruise), offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the enchanting Sungai Batu Pahat from a completely new perspective.
Since its inception on Sept 16 last year, BP Cruise has been steadily gaining popularity, particularly during school holidays.
Many families have eagerly embraced the chance to cruise along the river that was once christened Rio Formosa by Portuguese sailors in the 16th century – a name that means “beautiful river,” as marked in the maps of renowned navigator Tom Pires.
Tourism Batu Pahat chairman Qairy Maheran, shared that the initiative by the Batu Pahat Municipal Council (MPBP) aims to introduce a fresh tourism product while celebrating the region's stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
“Visitors can select from a range of cruise packages available at different times of the day—whether morning, afternoon, or evening. The cruise features a classic wooden cabin that blends traditional charm with elegant design,” he told Bernama.
He further said that the Layar Alam package offers passengers a scenic journey past significant landmarks, including Batu Pahat Port, the iconic Tun Abdul Razak Bridge, the Japanese Club House, the ferry pier, the Si Hai Long Wang Temple, lush mangrove areas, fishing villages, and habitats for migratory birds and crocodiles.
For those seeking a more exclusive experience, the Layar Seri package offers a private charter, with a route that extends all the way to Pantai Minyak Beku. This package is perfect for special occasions such as birthday celebrations or photography sessions set against a breathtaking sunset backdrop.
Meanwhile, the Layar Muara package allows for a tranquil cruise from Anjung Shahbandar Pier to the mouth of the Strait of Melaka, available for special bookings.
“BP Cruise not only enriches the tourism scene but also provides a therapeutic experience through its river healing concept, allowing visitors to connect more intimately with nature,” Qairy added.
He also highlighted that the cruise experience changes depending on the time of day. In the morning, guests can witness the bustling port with fishermen and ships, while in the afternoon, they may spot migratory birds and crocodiles basking on the riverbank, all while taking in the mesmerising sunset panorama.
First-time cruiser Nur Zulaikha Muzamil, 25, from Kluang, expressed how the experience was unlike any other.
“I’ve visited Batu Pahat countless times, but this was an entirely different experience. Cruising along the river and seeing the sights from a fresh angle was truly special,” she said.
Salwani Hasharudin, 28, also shared how the afternoon cruise left her wanting more.
“I can’t wait to come back and experience the sunset cruise next time. It’s bound to be even more stunning,” she said.
