SERI KEMBANGAN, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysian golfer Liyana Durisic showcased nerves of steel and masterful precision to emerge as the overall champion of The Ladies’ Golf Tournament 2025 held at the The Mines Resort & Golf Club with a total score of two-under-211.

The 24-year-old displayed remarkable composure throughout the battle to capture the crown and take home RM17,500 in prize money.

“I am very happy with the way I played. I stuck to my game plan. I was very patient today and I didn’t try to do anything extra or anything heroic. I just kept calm, kept steady and it worked out in my favour.

“I think it’s a very good incentive especially for Malaysian golfers because our normal event is only RM10,000. And for us to be getting a bigger amount is always a good motivation,” she told Bernama, today.

Liyana expressed hope that future women’s tournaments would continue offering attractive rewards to inspire more participation and elevate the standard of women’s golf in Malaysia.

The golfer will next tee off at the Maybank Championship, scheduled from Oct 30 to Nov 2 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), where she aims to continue her strong form against a competitive international field.

Meanwhile, young Malaysian talent Amberly Zaira shone after clinching the Best Amateur title with a total score of seven-over-220.

The 54-hole stroke-play championship organised by the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) and sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) aims to elevate women’s professional golf in the country while providing a platform for emerging talents to compete at a world-class venue.

Hosted at The Mines Resort & Golf Club, the event continues the course’s rich championship legacy, having previously staged the 1999 World Cup of Golf and the 2000 Women’s World Cup of Golf, which featured legends such as Annika Sörenstam, Se Ri Pak and Karrie Webb.

The tournament offered a total prize purse of RM100,000, with the champion taking home RM17,500, while subsequent positions received payouts in accordance with the PGM Tour prize distribution.
