KANGAR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Two new B40 students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) received a warm welcome from vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Ts Dr Zaliman Sauli, who visited their residential college last Monday to present donations and personally check on their welfare.

In a statement today, UniMAP said the students, Ahmad Danial Fitri Mohd Fazli, 20, and P. Heviinash, 22, are beneficiaries of the B40 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Bursary Programme as well as the Pembangunan Siswa SULUNG Programme.

Both students, who are pursuing their bachelor’s degrees, will enjoy full tuition fee exemptions throughout their studies, with Ahmad Danial Fitri also receiving a monthly allowance of RM800, allowing them to focus on their academic journey with greater peace of mind.

Zaliman said in the statement that the visit was part of UniMAP’s efforts to nurture a caring culture that emphasises not only academic excellence but also the holistic well-being of students.

He said the visit also demonstrated UniMAP’s commitment to strengthening the spirit of togetherness, in line with the university’s core values of Knowledge, Sincerity and Excellence.

“We want to ensure that no UniMAP student drops out due to financial constraints or life’s challenges. They are the nation’s assets and it is the university’s responsibility to keep them motivated to complete their studies.

“I hope they are happy at UniMAP and if they face any problems, they can reach out to the faculty or the Student Affairs Department (JHEP),” he said.

The visit saw the two students being presented with essential items and welfare assistance, helping to ensure they can continue their studies in a more comfortable and conducive environment.

Also present were UniMAP deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah and the university’s JHEP director Associate Professor Ir Ts Dr Mohamad Syahmie Mohamad Rasidi.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Danial Fitri, majoring in New Media Communication, expressed his heartfelt thanks to UniMAP for the B40 TVET Bursary programme, which allows him to focus entirely on his studies with peace of mind.

“I am now able to focus entirely on my studies and will make every effort to make my mother proud and support my family,” he said in the statement.

Heviinash, a first-batch student in Data Science (Artificial Intelligence) at UniMAP, said he is committed to excelling in his studies and turning this opportunity into a pathway for a successful career.

“I am truly happy and thankful. I will study hard, as I believe that education equips us with the knowledge and skills necessary for the job market,” said the physically challenged student.

According to UniMAP, at the age of 14, Heviinash, a Diploma in Information Technology graduate from Balik Pulau Polytechnic, represented Malaysia in Los Angeles, presenting his project “Turbidity Indicator for Water Pollution” at Broadcom Masters International 2017.
