First-ever Integrated EV Charging Hub To Be Built At Seremban R&R -- Nanta

SEREMBAN, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s first integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging hub will be built at the North–South Expressway southbound Rest and Relax (R&R) area in Seremban at an estimated cost of RM12 million.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project, expected to be completed in 2027, is in line with the government’s policy and direction to accelerate the transition to low‑carbon energy and mobility.

“So this will be a complex that is nearby and can be integrated with the existing facilities at R&R Seremban, and because there are now many vehicles on the road powered by electricity.

“Today, we no longer view R&R areas like R&R Seremban or highway lay-bys merely as places to stop, rest or refuel,” he told reporters after officiating the charging hub’s groundbreaking ceremony today.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd chairman Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif was also present at the ceremony.

During the event, PLUS and Yinson GreenTech, Yinson Holding’s green technology business unit, announced a collaboration through Terra ChargEV Sdn Bhd to develop the EV hub, supporting the country’s initiative towards low‑carbon mobility.

Nanta said the development will transform highway R&Rs into mobility service destinations that integrate evolving user needs and experiences across food, beverage and comprehensive, modern and inclusive public facilities.

He said the hub will be equipped with 20 fast-charging points and public facilities such as restrooms, a prayer room, and energy-efficient lighting.

“This EV hub will feature high-performance fast chargers of up to 350 kilowatts (kW). Its design also incorporates solar infrastructure, demonstrating a commitment to renewable energy practices,” he said.

Nanta added that the project will have a positive impact on the economy and communities, creating jobs while improving people’s quality of life by providing user-friendly, eco-friendly facilities.

He also said the government is committed to reaching the target of establishing 10,000 EV charging stations nationwide by the end of 2025, including on highways, with PLUS contributing to the increase in EV stations.

“There are 140 fast-charging points across all Malaysian highways, including 114 points on PLUS, which helps reduce EV users’ range anxiety,” he said, adding that a further 50 EV charging points will be established next year across the nation’s highway network.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Nasir added that the southbound Seremban R&R was chosen as the hub location to add value to the redevelopment of the stop, marking it as Malaysia’s first sustainable R&R.
