SEREMBAN, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Interim Selangor FC coach Christophe Gamel praised his players for showing strong character and discipline after their 4–0 victory over Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) in the first leg of the FA Cup quarter-finals at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi last night.

The Frenchman said he was satisfied with the team's performance, particularly their ability to keep a clean sheet while maintaining their attacking rhythm.

"I am very happy tonight because we didn't concede a goal. Our weakness has been more in defence, but tonight the players showed that they have improved," he told the reporters after the match.

He said Selangor displayed hunger and determination to score, adding that the result reflected the team's strength in attack.

Gamel stated that the team had the spirit to prove they could score goals, adding that their offensive strength was evident in their performance last night.

Meanwhile, Gamel also commended winger Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim or known as Faisal Halim for his impressive display, describing him as the standout performer of the night.

"I think he is the man of the match tonight, but I don't like to put one above the other. For me, the institution is more important than anyone, but he did his part," he added that Muhamad Faisal's strong mental comeback and dedication have been key to his current form.

Gamel also expressed confidence in several young players, including Muhamad Syahir Bashah and Ahmad Zikri Mohd Khalili who had shown improvement and maturity in their play.

Five-time FA Cup champions Selangor FC secured a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg of the quarter-finals after thrashing NSFC 4-0 in the first-leg tie, courtesy of a brace from Faisal Halim and goals from import players Chrigor Flores Moraes and Zach Paul John Clough.

Meanwhile, NSFC head coach, Mohd Nidzam Jamil admitted that Selangor FC had a better quality of play although his men managed to create a few chances, especially in the second half, but there was no good finishing from the team.

Mohd Nidzam said his team needs to continue to work hard to improve their performance as well as to improve in the next match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium on Oct 29.
