John Sikie New President Of Parti Rakyat Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Kakus assemblyman Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai has been elected as the new president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) for the 2025-2028 term.

The announcement was made today, the final day of the sixth triennial delegates’ conference of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component party.

Sikie succeeds Datuk Seri Joseph Salang Gandum, a former deputy federal minister, who chose not to defend the post.

 The Minister in the Premier's Department secured 186 votes to defeat Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, who obtained 154 votes.

The post of deputy president went to Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development II (Port Development) and Samalaju assemblyman Datuk Majang Renggi, who won unopposed following the withdrawal of Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts II (Creative Industry and Performing Arts) Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is Balai Ringin assemblyman

Meanwhile, Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie retained her position as PRS Women chief unopposed, while Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang was elected as the new Youth chief. Both automatically serve among the party’s seven vice-presidents.

The other five vice-presidents are Kanowit MP Datuk Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang, Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang, and Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol.
