JASIN, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The final edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka drew to a close today with a total of 268,327 visitors over three days, making it one of the most well-received government programmes in the state this year.
Themed ‘Aspirasi MADANI, Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’, the programme, organised by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in collaboration with the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit and the Melaka State Secretary’s Office, surpassed its initial target of 100,000 visitors.
MINDEF, in a statement, said the programme provided a platform for the public to access a wide range of government services through consultation counters and mobile units offering information on policies, assistance and opportunities in employment, education, health and entrepreneurship.
“Over 100 government services were made available through 27 participating ministries and agencies, including interactive exhibitions and the participation of MADANI sales entrepreneurs,” the statement said.
The Melaka edition was further enlivened by a defence segment by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), showcasing military assets, tactical demonstrations, aerial displays, cultural performances and interactive engagements with the public.
Various community-based activities were also held, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) showcases, robotics technology exhibitions, local food sales, government service counters and free health screenings.
The programme also extended its reach through satellite programmes based on Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), with activities such as building repairs, gotong-royong (community clean-ups), health campaigns, food distribution, as well as career and volunteer programmes.
As the final stop of the PMR 2025 series, Melaka was chosen for its status as a world-class tourism destination rich in heritage and culture, as well as its reputation as a progressive state driven by innovation, technological advancements and the well-being of its people, in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations.
A visitor, retiree Siti Aishah Aman, 57, said she attended the programme with her family to explore the various services and programmes offered.
“There were many activities for all age groups. Students could learn about TVET and post-school opportunities, while adults could undergo free health checks and obtain information from various agencies,” she said.
She said programmes like PMR are very beneficial and informative, as they bring together different government departments in one place, making it easier for the public to access information and services directly.
“I also went to Kenduri Rakyat, which is a great initiative that not only strengthens community bonds but also allows visitors to enjoy traditional dishes from various states,” she said.
For Nur Hanisah Mohd Sukri, 20, the PMR initiative should continue as it provides young people with opportunities to broaden their knowledge and strengthen their sense of patriotism.
“I found out about PMR Melaka through social media and was excited to come see the military exhibition. It was fascinating to meet our armed forces personnel in person and see the military assets up close,” she said.
She added that such an initiative not only provided valuable exposure to youths but also instilled patriotism and a better understanding of the role of national defence.
