SUBANG JAYA, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Thousands of visitors gathered as Sunway Lagoon here and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun, Perak, illuminated the night skies with dazzling fireworks, marking the highlight of The Grand Deepavali Celebration last night.

Sunway Theme Parks chief executive officer Prof Calvin Ho said this year’s Deepavali celebration brought together local families, tourists from neighbouring ASEAN countries and international visitors, creating a vibrant cultural melting pot at one of the biggest Deepavali festivals in Malaysia.

“The festive atmosphere offered guests an unforgettable evening filled with music, dance and cultural showcases, creating a joyous space where everyone could celebrate the Festival of Lights together at the world’s largest surf pool.

“Besides great food, we ended the night with a beautiful performance of fireworks,” he said when met by Bernama at the celebration at Malaysia’s premier multi-park destination here yesterday.

The vibrant week-long festival, held from Oct 15 to 22, celebrates Malaysia’s diverse cultural spirit and the triumph of light over darkness.

Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a spectacular line-up of performances, including Melodies of Deepavali, the lively Colours of Bhangra and a spirited Dhol Parade that had visitors dancing along.

The celebration culminated in a breathtaking musical fireworks display, lighting up the skies above Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World of Tambun, symbolising the essence of Deepavali, which is joy, unity and new beginnings.

Families and friends also enjoyed meet-and-greet sessions with beloved mascots Captain Quack and Family, colourful kolam displays and festive photo zones, all designed to immerse guests in the beauty and warmth of Deepavali.

Ho said the events aim to create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can come together to experience the richness of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage.

In line with the spirit of sharing and togetherness, Sunway Lagoon also invited children from Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home in Petaling Jaya and Rumah KIDS in Subang Jaya, along with participants from KTG, an initiative that supports the empowerment of B40 women, including single mothers, stay-at-home moms, and underprivileged women, to join in the celebration.

Meanwhile, Sunway Lost World of Tambun welcomed children from Rainbow Children’s Home in Ipoh, Perak, reflecting Sunway’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, community engagement, and meaningful festive experiences for all.

“The Grand Deepavali Celebration builds on Sunway Theme Parks’ long-standing commitment to cultural inclusivity, following other major festive events such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas, making Sunway Theme Parks a true reflection of Malaysia’s unity in diversity,” Ho said.

He added that as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, large-scale cultural celebrations like the Grand Deepavali Celebration play a crucial role in enhancing the country’s appeal as a must-visit destination.

By showcasing the beauty of Malaysia’s living heritage through music, art and community festivities, he said Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun are contributing to promoting Malaysia’s multicultural identity on the global stage.

Ho said showcasing the beauty of Malaysia’s living heritage also attracts international tourists and repeat visitors, drives economic benefits to surrounding communities and tourism partners and positions cultural events as key tourism experiences for families and travellers.

The Grand Deepavali Celebration continues until Oct 22 with ongoing performances, festive food and family-friendly activities across both Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun.
