KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) – The epic tale that forms the foundation of Malay civilisation is set to return to the stage when the Sulalat’Us Salatin 2.0 Musical Theatre is performed from Oct 31 to Nov 2 at Balai Budaya Tun Syed Nasir, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).
Producer Siti Rohayah Attan said the performance is presented as part of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 Programme, aimed at strengthening local performing arts rooted in heritage and national identity.
“Sulalat’Us Salatin 2.0 takes audiences on a journey through the glory of the Malay maritime empire — from the era of Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain to the fall of the Malacca Sultanate. Among the highlights are the pact of Demang Lebar Daun, the story of Tun Jana Khatib in Temasek, the wisdom of Hang Nadim, and the legendary love story of Tun Teja,” she said in a statement.

The play, directed by Zaifri Husin and written by Siti Jasmina Ibrahim, SitiRoy Tan and Ezee Klasik, breathes new life into this classical work, serving as a platform to instil national pride and appreciation for the nation’s history.
“This musical theatre, first staged at the end of last year, is expected to be one of the most anticipated performances of the year, reviving the grandeur of Malay history on the modern stage,” she added.

Among the cast members are Nabila Huda (as Puteri Gunung Ledang), Adam Lee (Sultan Mahmud Syah), Aris Kadir (Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain/Tun Jana Khatib), Zaidi Omar (Demang Lebar Daun), Zera Hariz (Tun Teja), Siti Sarah Jamil (Tun Fatimah), with special appearances by Rahman Adam and Mubarak Majid.
This large-scale production is presented by CTRA Production in collaboration with the Persatuan Bangsawan Bintang Timur and supported by DBP, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Melaka and the Malaysia Arts School Kuala Lumpur featuring more than 140 production crew members.
