Police To Intensify School Area Surveillance For Student Safety

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, has directed all state police chiefs to enhance patrols and surveillance around school areas to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and the entire educational community.

This directive includes regular patrols by the patrol unit, criminal intelligence teams, and special monitoring units to safeguard schools and identify any potential threats or activities that could disrupt public order.

“If necessary, the Patrol Car Unit may conduct brief patrols, ranging from one to five minutes, around school areas to assess and maintain security,” he told a press conference here today.

Mohd Khalid said this move aligns with the government’s policy to reinforce security in schools, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to station police officers at schools nationwide.

He added that these enhanced patrols aim not only to ensure physical security but also to build public confidence in the police as a strategic partner within the educational community.

Yesterday, Anwar announced that the government had approved the continued deployment of police at school premises to address growing concerns about bullying, abuse, and rising crime in schools.

Mohd Khalid also noted that the police (PDRM) maintain strong collaboration with the Ministry of Education through its network of over 9,000 schools, each of which is supported by a school liaison officer (SLO) to strengthen ties between the police and school administrations.
