24/10/2025 05:37 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on media personnel covering the 47th ASEAN Summit to channel any feedback or difficulties they face during the event directly to him.

He said this was because the summit, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, has made history by attracting the largest number of journalists, including members of international media organisations.

“If there are any issues, please inform me, whether they relate to internet connectivity or welfare matters, as this summit has recorded the largest number of journalists in the history of such events hosted in Malaysia.

“With over 300 journalists from Japan alone, this is truly a historic occasion. So if there are any concerns, please contact me,” he said during his weekly press conference here today.

As of Oct 22, Fahmi said a total of 2,854 media practitioners from 290 local and foreign agencies had registered to cover the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, including 648 Malaysian official media representatives, 327 local media  personnel, and 1,277 international media representatives.

Meanwhile, he said a number of heads of state and government have begun arriving in Malaysia for the summit, with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão being the first to arrive and personally received by Fahmi at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

He added that preparations for the 47th ASEAN Summit are proceeding smoothly and stressed that there will be no lockdown imposed in Kuala Lumpur throughout the event.

“The routes are as announced (earlier), and if there are any periodic or scheduled diversion, please consult the Kuala Lumpur police chief. Only on Nov 26 will the main routes be diverted, beginning with the area around the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre,” he said.

Fahmi also advised the public to obtain the latest information from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK), to avoid any inconvenience during the summit.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be held from Oct 26 to 28 under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability.’

Among the heads of state and government scheduled to attend the summit are United States President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This marks the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the ASEAN Chair since the bloc’s establishment in 1967, following its previous chairmanships in 2015, 2005, 1997 and 1977.
