IPOH, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, graced the Perak State Deepavali Celebration at Stadium Indera Mulia here tonight.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, and the Raja Di Hilir, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.
Their Royal Highnesses arrived at about 8.30 pm and were received by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman A. Sivanesan.
The event, organised by the state government, drew a crowd of about 10,000 people of various races who enjoyed the festive atmosphere and a wide array of traditional dishes.
During the event, Sultan Nazrin also presented contributions to 70 orphans from several welfare homes.
Meanwhile, Saarani, in his speech, called on the people to make the Deepavali celebration a turning point for self-reflection and to rekindle the light of compassion and humanity within their hearts.
“People must embrace the value of caring affection as their guiding light and unity as their beacon so that the state and nation will shine brightly with peace and harmony,” he said.
