Six Arrested In RM22.35 Million E-waste Equipment Raid In Juru

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Police arrested six individuals and seized electronic waste (e-waste) processing equipment and components worth over RM22.35 million in a raid at a factory in Jalan Bukit Tambun, Juru here, yesterday.

General Operations Force (GOF) Northern Brigade commander, SAC Shahrum Hashim, said the operation was carried out by its Battalion 2 Intelligence Division, following several days of surveillance.

The raid, conducted from 9 am to 6 pm. under Ops Hazard, resulted in the arrest of a local man and five foreign nationals, including a Chinese couple and three Myanmar women, aged between 22 and 55.

“Among the items seized were five forklifts, waste filtration and washing machines, an extruder machine, a compressor, 250 jumbo bags of electronic waste (approximately 250,000 kg), and 300 additional jumbo bags of processed electronic waste (approximately 150,000 kg).

“Authorities also confiscated RM6,147 in cash and a trailer truck carrying 20,000 kg of processed waste, “ he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 (1A) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“The Northern Brigade will continue to monitor activities in Perak, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis to combat illegal E-waste processing,” he added.
