GYEONGJU (South Korea), Oct 28 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- The South Korean government and local companies will showcase popular Korean food products during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju this week to further boost the global appeal of Korean cuisine.

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs will operate a K-Food Station near the summit venue, the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Centre, for four days starting Wednesday.

It will introduce Korean desserts such as hotteok, a pancake filled with brown sugar, and traditional refreshments to foreign visitors, Yonhap news agency reported.

At the station, 13 Korean food companies will also exhibit products with halal certification to explore export opportunities.

Major food companies including CJ Cheiljedang Corp and Nongshim Co will supply their signature products and operate food trucks for participants of APEC-related events.

CJ plans to offer various items under its bibigo brand, including instant rice cups, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and dried seaweed snacks.

Nongshim will operate a booth to hand out its best-selling Shin Ramyun instant noodles, featuring characters from the animated film KPop Demon Hunters.

Kyochon, one of South Korea’s leading fried chicken brands, will also run a food truck serving its signature menu.

“The upcoming APEC summit is a golden opportunity to promote Korea’s culture and charm to the world,” Agriculture Minister Song Mi Ryung said, pledging to showcase the “unforgettable taste of Korea” during the event.

The official APEC summit will be held on Friday and Saturday, with a series of side events scheduled throughout the week, including the APEC CEO Summit and a future-tech forum.
